Our Summer Institutes will provide you with the perfect opportunity to get organised for the year ahead, and at the same time offer you practical teaching tools to incorporate into your classroom and make critical and creative thinking happen for your students!
Summer Institutes are held on 12 & 13 January 2012. There are two workshops held concurrently on each day at one location. Participants choose whether they would like to attend Workshop 1 or Workshop 2 or do both.
Workshop 1: Critical and Creative Thinking – Making it Happen! – Gerard Alford
An introduction to the key principles associated with implementing higher order thinking and a wide range of cognitive and co-operative thinking strategies within a cognitive framework.
Workshop 2: Engagement with Co-operative Thinking Tools – Eric Frangenheim
Using the four principles of co-operative learning (PIME), participants will experience a range of tools which require students to discuss, explain, argue alternatives and delve more deeply into the material being studied. These tools could and should be used in all subject areas.
Cost: All prices include morning tea, lunch and a copy of the 2012 innovative teachers’ companion or ‘Reflections on Classroom Thinking Strategies’ by Eric Frangenheim. Each participant will receive a certificate of participation. See prices below.
